I recall a recent post with someone who had a hankering for one of these. Here’s your chance on one ready for cheap fun .

Not mine just sharing the fun......

Those are tremendously fun, but so woefully under braked. A friend of mine had one that is the fastest FWD car I’ve ever driven on a racetrack. It also involved pumping the brakes about halfway down the front straight to slow down enough to stay on the track in turn one. This was with proper pads, fluid and a whole bunch of front brake ducting. There was pro team with some guys on it I knew up in Colorado that tried to run these in World Challenge for a season back in the day. The cars were fast, but w ithin the rules, there was nothing they could do to get more than half a race distance before the brakes were all but flaming mush.

I love these but good luck finding a nice clean stock example  that hasnt been beat to shit. Its a real shame, they’re great cars.

I’m not sure about that from the video. Those are some conservative braking points and turn in, suggesting to this former FWD racecar driver some toasty brakes and greasy front tires. To give some perspective on lap time, a 2:31 lap time is only about the pace a global MX-5 cup car runs around COTA, with literally a small fraction of the hp. A world challenge car, especially from back in the day, would be running lot harder than this at race pace. These guys aren’t going that fast around the track overall, just hauling ass down the 1/2 mile long straights.

Also worth noting the Alpha Skittle is a time trial car by a small tuning shop. The similarities between time trial and actually racing are about only that they both happen to take place on a racetrack. When a pro World Challenge team with a six-digit annual budget can’t make ‘em work... That said, based on the feedback I got (I was inquiring with the possible future idea of building one as a ITE-O or SP car, because they’re so damn fast and cheap, nowadays you’d target STO for such an idea) for TT would be a better application for these cars. Making them go fast was easy. Making them live to go 10/10ths for an hour long race distance turned out to be a no go even with a World Challenge budget.

Now that’s a informative response!

Thx and well done.

Yeah, I had run that Wilwood  setup on my base Impreza. Two track days later and I disintegrated the front pads. Not nearly the thermal capacity necessary for serious duty.

That very well could have been me. I’m trying to reduce my fleet of clunkers, but I did pass this on to a friend in PA who loves these things. If I were looking I’d definitely get in touch and consider driving this one. The miles aren’t ridiculous and it looks clean enough.

I wouldn’t call that a failure. The purpose of the big brake system is to take brakes that used to turn into flaming mush in 20 minutes into something that lasts without major degredation. So it sounds like no catastrophic brake fade, and no burning down your wheel bearings, you just used up your pads after a couple of hours of track use. That’s pretty much mission accomplished to me with a minimum effort bolt on system.

I would say keep the Wilwoods and shop around for better pads or brake ducting. Or do a better search than me and find something with a bigger rotor. Back to the point, this SRT4 is $5000 for what must be about a 300 hp track ready car seems like cheap fun to me.

Now granted I have no clue how durable those things are. I’d especially worry about axles and hubs and transmissions. B ut hey, those are consumables and if you want to run with the big boys, racing ain’t cheap.

i did the same thing. wild wood super light calipers 6  piston. they designed and sold it. the pads were smaller than the factory pads and about half the thickness. nowhere near the thermal capacity required for 20 minutes of had track use.  pads were curved when i was done from braking so hard.  rotors glowing red hot cooling to bright blue lol...drove home with dragging brakes as i had melted the seals.  if i let of the gas the car would stop lol...

After that, I immediately switched to a Legacy GT brakes setup that had larger diameter and thicker rotors and a standard caliper that had more  higher performance brake pad options.  No more burning through a set of pads in a weekend on a 170hp NA Impreza.  :)

Works for me. Just like with the Type R which as best I can tell have CRV brakes. They work great. Nothing beats mass.....

Per owner Sold, to the gentleman from WV on Facebook Marketplace for $5,300.

He doesn’t want to put miles on his S2000 so he bought this for running around.

Thank you all for playing.
